Frequently asked questions

What people ask before installing, answered briefly and honestly. For the setup step by step, see How it works; for privacy in detail, the security page.

General

What is CamTable?

CamTable is a platform for games inside your voice or video call on Discord Web, installed as a Chrome extension. CamTable sets the table: the game opens over the call, and scores, turns and whispers show on the camera tiles. Addons bring the games; the Official Addon's come ready with the install. No separate app or website needed. See how it works.

Is CamTable free?

Installing the extension and joining rooms is free, even as a guest. Opening a room takes a Plan: Individual Host, or a Discord server on the Community Plan. During the invite-only beta we grant Plans by hand and charge nothing. Whoever opens the room holds the Plan; everyone at the table plays free. The Plans side by side: Pricing.

Which browsers and platforms does it work on?

Today it runs in Chrome (116 or newer) on a computer, on Discord Web opened in the browser. You can play in a server's voice channel or in a call with a friend or a group. More platforms will come later.

Does it work on my phone or in the Discord desktop app?

No. CamTable is a Chrome extension, and Discord's desktop and mobile apps don't run extensions. Open Chrome on your computer and go to discord.com.

Do my friends need to install it too?

Yes, everyone who plays needs the extension. People without it stay in the call but don't see the game. Your friends can join as guests, with no sign-up, and joining is free.

Is CamTable affiliated with Discord?

No. CamTable is an independent project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Discord Inc. It's an extension that runs inside Discord Web, in your own browser.

Privacy and safety

Can CamTable see my Discord account or messages?

To find the camera tiles, it reads from the Discord page who you are, which call you're in and who else is in it. It doesn't read your messages, and it never uses or stores your Discord session token. If you sign in with Discord, it asks only for your basic identity (user ID, display name, avatar), never your email. Games never see your Discord ID; they know you only by an ID made for that match.

Does my camera or voice go to a server?

No. Your camera and microphone are never sent to or recorded by CamTable's servers. The call's audio and video travel through Discord as always. A whisper's audio, and your camera when the game closes cameras to the call, goes directly between the players in that whisper over a peer-to-peer connection. What's written in a whisper does pass through CamTable's server, and is kept only while the room is open. Camera overlays are rendered on your own device.

Who hears a whisper?

Only the players the game puts in that whisper. While you're in one, your voice doesn't reach the call and you don't hear the call. The game itself never hears what's said or reads what's written there. Only a game starts a whisper, and what's written is deleted when the room closes, if not before.

Can a game reach my Discord account or my camera?

No. Every game opens in a frame walled off from Discord's page and from the extension: it can't read Discord's page, cookies or storage, and it never receives your camera's picture or your microphone's sound. What it may do is set by the permissions you see when you join or add it. As with any website, the game's author sees your IP address. More on the security page.

How do I delete my account or uninstall CamTable?

Press the account icon at the top right of the CamTable panel, then Hesabımı sil (Delete my account), and confirm: your account, sessions and addon list are deleted for good. Then remove CamTable from Chrome's Extensions page. Unused guest accounts are deleted on their own after 30 days.

Where do I ask about privacy?

The Privacy Policy explains what we collect, what we never collect and how long we keep it; the contact address for questions and data requests is there too. For a short, plain overview, see the security page.

Games

Which games are there?

Games come from addons, so which games you play depends on the addons you add. CamTable's Official Addon comes with the install, nothing more to add: 15 games, Okey, Batak, King, Backgammon, Charades, Name on Your Forehead and more. The full list is on the games page.

How many people can play?

From 2 to 15 players, depending on the game. Backgammon is for two; party games take a crowd. Each game's player count is on the games page.

Who runs the rules? Can anyone cheat?

Every official game except Dice Duel runs its rules on the addon's server: only you see your cards, and the server rolls the dice. In games whose rules run in the host's browser, the host could see hidden information; the game's page and the join prompt say which it is.

Can I add other games?

Yes. Paste an addon's link into the Eklentilerim (My addons) tab of the CamTable panel and press Ekle (Add), or open the install link its author shared. Before anything is added you see the addon's name, its permissions and who runs the rules. CamTable doesn't host or review community addons, so only add ones from people you trust. Step by step: How it works.

Rooms and Plans

How do I open a room during the beta?

Opening a room takes an account signed in with Discord and a Plan. With Individual Host you open one room at a time, in any call. A Discord server holds the Community Plan, and its members with the host role open rooms in that server's voice channels. During the invite-only beta we grant Plans by hand and charge nothing. When a friend with a Plan opens the room, you join free. Plans in plain words.

What happens if the host's connection drops?

The match pauses for 15 minutes. If the host comes back it picks up where it left off; if not, it ends. The room never passes to another player. When everyone leaves, the room closes after 5 minutes in the lobby, or after 15 during a match.

Developers

Can I make my own game?

Yes. Your game is an addon you host on your own site: a manifest.json and a game page. The page connects to the room through @camtable/sdk, and the rules run in the host's browser (host mode) or on your own server (engine mode). Players add your addon by its link; you upload no code to CamTable and wait for no review or approval. The SDK packages arrive on npm with the public beta. Start on the developer page.

How do I try my game without Discord?

In the Inspector. Paste your addon's manifest address and the game opens without Discord or the CamTable extension; you play every seat yourself. The Test Room it opens runs on the real server, holds only you, is never listed and needs no Plan, just a Discord sign-in. It closes after 30 minutes.

The rest you'll see in the call

Add the extension, join a call on Discord and press the handle on the right edge. If you get stuck, How it works walks you through it.
