Build a game for the call

How to build, host and share a game for CamTable: a game that players add by pasting one URL, that runs inside their Discord call, and that you host yourself.

CamTable does not host your game: there is no upload, no account to register and no review. You publish a static site, and players install it by its manifest.json URL. The rules of your game run in one of two places, and you choose by one line of configuration: in the browser of the player who opened the room (host mode, free, and the default), or on a small server of yours (engine mode, when nobody may be able to cheat).

Türkçe özetler: Quick start and the model, summarised in Turkish.

Every chapter

The whole addon author guide, one chapter a page.

  1. 1. The model What an addon is, the four resources it can offer, the three rules everything follows from, and the sandbox your game page runs in.
  2. 2. Quick start Scaffold a project, run it behind a tunnel, play every seat in the Inspector, and see what each file of the project is for.
  3. 3. The addon protocol The routes an addon answers: the manifest, Catalogs and their filters, metas and Play Options, caching and versions.
  4. 4. Permissions The six permissions a game can ask for, what each grants, the bridge calls it opens and the line players read before they agree.
  5. 5. Players and privacy Your addon never sees a Discord id, server or channel: each player is a Match Player Id, and names come only with players.profile.
  6. 6. The game page and the SDK The page players see, with @camtable/sdk: state and actions, hit regions, video slots, tile overlays, Whispers, Call Mute and Call Cover.
  7. 7. Custom tabs Extra panels in a drawer from the game's top bar, such as statistics or a history, fed by tab state the game page writes.
  8. 8. Host mode and engine mode One reducer, two places to run it: the host's browser for free, or your engine when nobody may cheat. Also Game Settings, timers and signatures.
  9. 9. Hosting Static files with CORS for every origin, and an engine if you have one: Cloudflare in one command, or any host that meets the same rules.
  10. 10. Installing, sharing and updating How players add your addon by URL or install link, what the consent screen shows them, how updates reach new rooms, and the blocklist.
  11. 11. Testing locally No game runs offline: put your work behind a tunnel, play it in the Inspector's Test Room in any browser, and keep your tests offline.
  12. 12. Rules of the road You are the publisher: use only what you own, collect only what you need, and keep your addon quick and available.
  13. 13. Limits at a glance Every number in one table: response times, state sizes, Whisper groups, pending actions, signature freshness and Game Settings fields.
